Bulphan Village has an active and vibrant community with a well-equipped village hall. The committee assessed that most of the electrics were outdated and needed to be rewired.
Challenge:
As the hall is in constant use, with many clubs using it on a weekly basis, the work needed to be carried out with the minimum amount of downtime.
The committee requested that the lighting in the main hall be adaptable to accommodate a lowered ceiling and additional insulation in the future. The specialist stage lighting was to be refitted.
It was identified that emergency lighting was required in the main hall.
Constant power was needed to be kept in place for the adjoining village store.
The power also needed to be kept in place for the Village Post Office to continue its weekly service for the local residents.
Approach:
Longer working hours and weekends were utilised to keep full closure to a minimum and work around regular club hours where work overran.
Arrangements were made with the village store to change over the power supply very early in the morning before opening time.
The main hall lights were fitted with ‘plug and play’ connectors to accommodate the lowered ceiling and the additional insulation they intended to fit in the future. The connectors will enable the fitters to simply remove the lights to fit the false ceiling and then easily re-connect them again.
Emergency lighting was also fitted with test switches set into the main switch panel.
The stage lighting was carefully removed and then refitted after running the new cabling as well as additional sockets for the sound system.
